As the country is going through the long and arduous journey to stability and peace (hopefully), Maoists are putting forth their 22 point pre condition before the constitutional essembly election. they have plans to launch agitation in parliament, government and the streets. here are some of their conditions:
- announcement of republic before the polls,
ok, this conditions needs a lot of preconditions. first up: do the politicians understand what is it to become a republic and what kind of republice. we dont want to do the same mistake we did announcing Nepal as a Secular state. (i have no issue being secular, but the process was well, too rash in my opinion)
- formation of an inquiry commission on involuntary disappearances,
ok, i agree with that. there are thousands of ppl who dissapeared both due to maoists and the army and we need to start the investigation, yestarday.
- roundtable conference of all sections of the society including Janajatis and Madhesis,
ok, when we say all sections of society, it is too broad. yes we need to educate everybody of the changes that the election is going to bring. a round table, well we might need a big table and a different strategy to go about it.
- release of political detainees,
this also needs further explanations, who are these detainees and there has to be due process rather than just realease. bottom line we need a proper, RULE OF LAW.
- start of the process for integrating the People's Liberation Army within the Nepali Army by forming a special cabinet committee,
this is another tricky one, how do you begin. probably they are both trained the same way, but integration would be difficult. one day u are killing one another and next you are all working together. i am no security expert but i dont think its a simple thing to achjieve.
- withdrawal of army from the royal palace,
i am not for or against the royal family, but the palace is part of our heritage we do want it protected, like any other historical sight.
- start the process of nationalising the properties of late King Birendra and also the properties of King Gyanandra which he acquired as the monarch.
this is a long process as well and i like it that they only say starting the process. if we are not going to have a monarchy we got to nationalize the properties, but have we decided not to have the monarchy yet. i belive that ppl should be asked to vote for it.
well thats some of their conditions, not bad actually, but no need to disrupt the economy with bundhs and general life in the country by strikes and all. i think we have had enough of it and seriously too much of anything is not affective. We need to think of more non-violent ways of making the government listen to the ppl, for some reason we only use the bandhs and strikes. what are other ways??
